Abhirami

Abhirami (born Divya Gopikumar on 26 July 1983) is an Indian filmactress, who has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu andKannada films.

Early life and Education

Abhirami was born as Divya to Gopikumar and Pushpa who were a bankofficials in Trivandrum, Kerala. She had her primary educationfrom Christ Nagar English High School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Trivandrum and predegree from Mar Ivanios College. Shegraduated in Psychology and Communications from the College ofWooster in Ohio. Her family migrated to United States. Herparents are currently yoga instructors at Ohio.

Career

Abhirami began her career as a TV anchor for the program Top Ten whichaired on Asianet Channel. She acted in a small role in theMalayalam film Pathram in 1999 and in a series Mercara directed byJude attipetty. Later she acted in films such as Millennium Stars,Njangal Santhushtaraanu, and Sraddha before shifting to Kollywoodwhere she appeared in films including Middle Class Madhavan, andSamudhiram. Her first Tamil film was Vanavil opposite Arjun. Anotable film in her career is Virumaandi where she appearedopposite Kamal Hassan. Besides Tamil and Malayalam, she hasappeared in Telugu and Kannada films and was a notable Tollywoodactress. She appeared opposite Upendra in the film RakthaKanneeru in 2004. and in Sriram opposite superstarShivrajkumar

Before acting in films, Abhirami appeared in the 100 episode Malayalamserial Akshaya Pathram by Sreekumaran Thampy. She also starredas a child artist in director Adoor Gopalakrishnan's filmKathapurushan. Later in 2004 she retired from movie industry and wentto United States for studies.

She recently dubbed for Pooja Kumar in both parts of KamalHaasan's Vishwaroopam.

She is making a comeback through Apothecary(Film) a 2014 Malayalammovie starring Suresh Gopi.

Abhirami is also the host of Rishimoolam on the Tamil televisionchannel Puthuyugam.

Family

She got married to Rahul on 27 Dec 2009 in Bangalore after fifteenyears long love affair. It was a very private and smallfunction as they both want simple marriage. They didn't invite anyonefrom film field. They studied in the same school and the friendshiplead to love when she was doing Top Ten, a program in Asianet. Nowshe is working in as the marketing director of an MNC in UnitedStates.
