Anu Hasan (born Anuradha Chandrahasan on 15 July 1970) is a Tamilactress and TV anchor. She made her film debut in thecritically acclaimed Indira (1995) and has since appeared in manyTamil films, playing predominantly supporting roles. She hosted thecelebrity talk show Koffee with Anu on the Tamil channel Vijayfor three seasons.
Early life
Anu Hasan was born on 15 July 1970 to Chandra Hasan, elder brother ofthe National Film Award-winning actor, Kamal Haasan. She waseducated at St. Joseph's Anglo Indian Girls Higher SecondarySchool, Trichy and earned a MSc degree in Physics andManagement from Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan.
Career
She began her acting career in the title role of the 1995 Tamilfilm Indira, directed by her cousin Suhasini Mani Ratnam.Afterwards, she appeared in many other films, playing supporting rolessuch as the mother, sister or wife character of the lead actor. Amongher films, her notable ones are Run (2002), in which she starredas the protagonist's sister, which earned her Tamil Nadu StateFilm Award for Best Supporting Actress and Nala Damayanthi (2003).
By 2000, she ventured into television, acting first in theseries Anbulla Snehgidhiye, which was adapted from Chitra BanerjeeDivakaruni's award-winning novel Sister of My Heart. Shethen starred in a number of TV series like Avan Aval Avargal,Ammaavukku Rendula Raagu and Vivahita (Malayalam), following which sheturned anchor for the celebrity talk show Koffee with Anu (namedafter herself), aired on Vijay TV. The show, which she hosted forover three years, soon became very popular and made her ultimately ahousehold name in Tamil Nadu.
In 2014 she joined the Ask How India social movement and made aseries of videos pertaining to social issues.
In addition, Anu has worked as a dubbing artiste, lending her voicefor many non-Tamil-speaking actresses, including Raveena Tandon,Preity Zinta and Geetu Mohandas.
