Asha Saini

Flora Asha Saini is an Indian film actress and model. Shepredominantly works in Telugu film industry, but has appeared in anumber of Kannada, Tamil and Hindi productions as well. Since herdebut in Prema Kosam (1999), she has acted in over 50 films andco-starred with noted actors including Rajinikanth,Vijaykanth, Prabhu, Karthik, Balakrishna,Venkatesh, Jagapati Babu and Rajasekhar.

Career

Born in Chandigarh, UT to an army officer, Flora began herschooling in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir and continued hereducation in The Army Public School,Dhaula Kuan Delhi.She was thefavorite student of Accounts teacher Lala. Her family moved toKolkata then, where she started pursuing a modeling career. Sheparticipated at the Miss Kolkata beauty pageant contest. Floramade her acting debut in the 1999 Telugu film Prema Kosam in which sheenacted the lead female role. The film producer of her firstfilm rechristened her as Asha Saini, while years later she would adopta new screen name, Mayuri, as per an astrologer's advice, beforeeventually reverting to her original name.

Flora subsequently essayed supporting roles in more than a dozenTelugu films in the next three years, with her appearance in the filmNarasimha Naidu (2002), which went on to become highlysuccessful, being the most notable, which led to her beingreferred to as "Lux Papa" thereafter. In 2002, she debuted inHindi, starring in the T. P. Aggarwal-produced Bharat BhagyaVidhata. Her second Hindi film Love in Nepal (2004) sawher pairing with popular playback singer Sonu Nigam, which too wasproduced by T. P. Aggarwal. Flora starred in several Kannadafilms, too, including Giri starring Srinagar Kitty and Nammannnastarring Sudeep.

In March 2008, she was arrested in Chennai for supposedly havingforged visa documents, and was subsequently banned from theTamil film industry. She claimed innocence, andthe ban was lifted a couple of weeks later.

Flora had three of her films, Broker (Telugu), Vismaya Pramaya and VahRe Vah (both Kannada) releasing on 31 December 2010, a rare occurrencethat secured her an entry in the Limca Book of Records for the mostnumber of film releases on one day. In 2010, Flora Saini washonoured with the Uttarakhand Ratan Award. She has alsoreceived The Great Daughter of Soil Award in Mauritius for her worktowards the poor and helpless.
