Andrea Jeremiah

Andrea Jeremiah is an Indian film actress, playback singerand voice actress from Chennai, who works mainly in the Tamilfilm industry. Beginning her career singing playback, Andrea has goneon to appear in films, mostly in the Tamil language.

Early life

Jeremiah was born in an Anglo-Indian Roman Catholic family inChennai, Tamil Nadu. Her father is a lawyer at theHigh Court in Chennai. She has one younger sister wholives and works at Leuven, Belgium as a researchassistant. She was raised in Arakkonam and went to SacredHeart Matriculation Higher Secondary School and graduated from Women'sChristian College. She said that she was quite a geek andwanted to be a psychiatrist until she completed her 12th boardexams.

Jeremiah learnt classical piano when she was age of eight. At the ageof 10, Andrea was a part of a Jackson Five-style troupe calledYoung Stars which formed the base of her early singing and composingcareer. She was also a theatre artist in her college and appearedin several stage plays organised by The Madras Players andEVAM. She also organised a company The Show Must Go On(TSMGO Productions) to promote live art and artistes. Andreasaid that as a college student, she had turned down every film offershe got as she had no intention of becoming a film actor.

Acting

She began her theatre career with Girish Karnad's Nagamandala. Shehas performed all over India. After rendering a song in GauthamMenon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, he asked her to play alead female character in his next venture PachaikiliMuthucharam. Pachaikili Muthucharam was a film adaptationof James Siegel's novel Derailed, with Andreaportraying Kalyani, a homemaker, whose husband engages in an affairand is blackmailed. Jeremiah was selected for the role after actressesSimran, Shobana and Tabu wereapproached.

She signed for Selvaraghavan's fantasy-adventure filmAayirathil Oruvan, which released in early 2010. In 2011,she agreed to play a minor supporting role in Venkat Prabhu'smulti-starrer Mankatha, which was released in August2011. In 2013, she made her debut in Malayalam cinemawith Rajeev Ravi's romance film Annayum Rasoolum. She hasrated this film as the best in her career. She played a rolein Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam and will reprise the role in itssequel, which is to release by the end of 2013.Andrea Jeremiah at the IIFA Rocks fashion show

Andrea has completed filming for Puthiya Thiruppangal, in whichshe plays a journalist, Endrendrum Punnagai, in which sheplays a model, and the Malayalam film LondonBridge. She has signed her third Malayalam film, AjithPillai's Mosayile Kuthirameenukal and Ram'sTaramani.

Singing

Andrea has stated that her focus was always on music and thatshe chose to be a professional singer and that acting happened bychance. In 2005, she ventured into playback singing infeature films. She has sung several popular songs forcomposers Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi SriPrasad and G. V. Prakash Kumar and has also receivednominations at Filmfare and Vijay Awards for few of them. Sheconsiders the song "Maalai Neram" as the most challenging she hassung.

Composing

Andrea Jeremiah composed, wrote and sung a single, titled "Soul ofTaramani", as a promo for her Tamil romantic-drama Taramani. Shehas also composed several music themes also.

Personal life

The actress was also linked to photographer-actor Sunder Ramu inearly 2012, before she made an announcement that the pair had beenclose friends for close to a decade. Andrea Jeremiahconfirmed that she had been in a relationship with composer. afterprivate photos had been leaked in August 2013. She hasclaimed that she is not bothered about the leaked photos and that shewas not ashamed of it, as she shared a good relationship withhim. Andrea later admitted to media that the images were ayear old and the pair had ended their low-key relationship theprevious year. After the release of Annayum Rasoolum(2013), the lead actor Fahadh Faasil openly declared to the mediathat he was in love with the actress. Andrea rejected reports that thepair were seeing each other and then criticized the move by Fahadh,and has since turned down opportunities to work with the actoragain.
